Why Use Synonyms?

Do you ever find yourself writing the same words over and over again? Lack of variety makes poems dull and uninviting; this is what synonyms were created for. A synonym is a word that has the same meaning as another word. For example, cold and icy are synonyms. Do you have a poem chock full of the same words? Try exploring some synonyms and throw in a couple of new words to spice up old poetry or create a new masterpiece today!

Where To Find Synonyms

Thanks to the computer and the internet, synonyms are relatively easy to find. You can use google(or any other search engine), an online thesaurus, or a physical thesaurus. Here is a link to the most popular online thesaurus. This is a pretty good source since it is designed solely for the purpose of providing you with legitimate synonyms.

How To Use Synonyms

Using synonyms is simple and it adds a major boost to your poetry! Just look up any word you are thinking of replacing in the thesaurus and then choose the best fitting word from the provided list. Sometimes there are words with no good alternatives, but more often then not you will enrich your writing through the use of synonyms.
